Calibration is a set of operations designed to establish the relationship (under specified conditions) between the values indicated by a measuring instrument and the corresponding known values of a measurand. Therefore, it is a quantitative comparison used to achieve accurate weighing results on balances and scales through a series of steps established by an international body—in the case of Negri, Quartino & Ferrario , the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standards. What does Metrological Calibration mean? The International Vocabulary of Measurement (IVM) defines calibration as the “operation that establishes, under specified conditions, in a first stage, a relationship between the values and measurement uncertainties provided by standards and corresponding indications with associated uncertainties; in a second stage, it uses this information to establish a relationship, seeking to obtain a measurement result from an indication.” In short, calibration is the process of comparing the values obtained by a measuring instrument with the corresponding measurement of a reference standard (or standard) traceable to the International System of Units (SI). NQF Milestones Since 1890, we have been weighing the country's production. 1890 The company is founded as Juan Negri y Cia . 1898 Together with other businessmen, Juan Negri founded the Chamber of Industries of Uruguay. 1917 Juan Negri creates and patents the first portable scale. 1941 Truck scales are installed in all the country's ports. 1943 The first train scale is installed in the country. 1956 The first aircraft scales manufactured entirely in Uruguay are exported to Varig. 1978 The 500th truck scale is installed. 1980 The first laboratory for the repair and control of electronic scales is installed. 1996 The branch is established in Paysandú. 2002 First scale company in the country to obtain ISO 9000-2001 certification for services. 2009 It provides all the scales for the new Carrasco International Airport. 2010 First Uruguayan company to have a laboratory accredited under ISO 17025 standards. 2012 The tender for the supply of all weighing systems for the new Montes del Plata pulp mill has been awarded. 2014 Dump platforms and jigs are incorporated for the grain industry. 2023 Intelligent automated scale at the Montevideo Municipal Government's solid waste transfer plant.
